The French Revolution Part-3(b) (Slavery Abolished)!!!
Hello friends,
Again we are here with Part-3(b) of The French Revolution i.e., Slavery Abolished. If you are new to our page please go through Part-3 (a) , our previous blog on The French Revolution.
A Short summary about the topic:
What is Slavery? A system in which an individual or a group is forced to work under someone, without getting paid for it. The same was happening in France since 17th century. A triangular slave trade was made between Europe, Africa and America. Merchants from France sailed to Africa and bought native negros from the local chieftains. No wages were paid to these slaves.
(Slavery in France)
Due to disrespectful and inhuman behaviour with the slaves the National Convention again had a debate our the human rights to be given equally to all communities of France. Thus, this led the Slavery abolishment as follows:
- After The French revolution, on 4th February 1794, the National Convention voted to abolish slavery in all the French colonies.
- But in 1802, slavery was again restored by Napoleon Bonaparte in the French colonies.
- In 1848, by French second republic slavery was finally abolished.
